New Horticulture Therapy Garden Making Progress

Feb 15, 2021 | News

The new horticulture therapy garden funded by the 2019 Tax Appeal is making real progress! The horticulture therapy garden is part of the existing spiral garden near the entrance to our main Harris Road Campus. Our TAFE Certificate in Work Education participants have completed a brick walled curved raised garden bed which they have also rendered and planted out with edible produce.

Hundreds of mud bricks have been artfully created by these participants and the school students for the long awaited pizza oven which is a feature of the garden. The central structure, which will be used as a teaching space in the garden has seen the posts and beams raised and work has commence on the roof.

It has been a long process but our participants have had a hand in each step of the process, picking up skills along the way and gaining a sense of pride and accomplishment in work well done. They certainly enjoyed firing up the pizza oven for the first time last week, and enjoying the pleasure of their hard work to date.

To top it off, the organic sourdough pizza bases were made in our very own onsite bakery.  Imagine being able to say that you’re eating food you made yourself from scratch, in an oven you built with your own hands and that the oven is positioned within a magical garden that you landscaped and planted yourself too! We look forward to officially opening the new garden in the near future. Watch this space!
