In December, the Warrah Society community came together to celebrate the festive season with great joy. From our much loved Christmas Carols to the celebrations held across our various services and Supported Independent Living (SIL) homes, it was a time of connection, pride, and shared Christmas spirit.
Our annual Christmas Carols brought people together through familiar songs and performances. Singing alongside families, friends, staff, and participants highlighted the value of these shared traditions.
We always enjoy our participants taking to the stage. Miguel and Lyndall read The Christmas Baby, and it was clear how much preparation and pride went into their performance. The participant-led songs performed by Kozet, Jacqueline, Richard, Sarah, Stephen, Trudy, and Nicci were engaging and full of personality. It was easy to see how much each participant was enjoying the experience and celebrating their achievements, with a few reluctant to leave the stage when their turn ended.
It is moments like these, shared with families and friends, that continue to make our Christmas traditions and all our festivals meaningful.
Alongside the Carols, ten SIL house Christmas parties were held across the month. These celebrations were smaller gatherings, with residents hosting family and friends in their homes. Each party reflected the residents’ personalities, who took pride in planning their celebrations. With support from staff, residents shopped for food and decorations, decorated their homes, helped prepare meals, and spent quality time with their loved ones.
Warrah Society CEO Delia Gray was able to attend many of the SIL house celebrations and shared the following message with staff:
“I have had the most wonderful time over the past few weeks popping into the Christmas parties in our homes. Every time, I found residents keen to welcome me, dressed for the occasion and full of festive cheer. The most delicious meals were laid out, from many cultures, lovingly prepared and proudly shared with families and friends. Each home had such a happy and welcoming atmosphere. I’d like to thank all of our staff members for the care and pride they take in their work, and for the smiles, creativity and warmth they bring each and every day. It was a wonderful opportunity to catch up with residents and families at a slower pace.”
From performances on stage to shared meals in outdoor settings, our Christmas celebrations reflected what Warrah is all about: belonging, pride, connection, and community.
