Recently, we had the great privilege of celebrating a truly special milestone, Richard’s 80th birthday.
Turning 80 is a significant occasion for anyone, but for a person living with an intellectual disability, it is especially meaningful. It reflects a lifetime of experiences, relationships, resilience, and the support of a caring community. Reaching this milestone was something truly worth celebrating, and Richard’s special day was filled with warmth, laughter, and all the things he loves most.
Richard has been part of the Warrah community for most of his life. Living in one of the Supported Independent Living houses and participating in the social and community day programs. Many staff, families, and friends have had the privilege of knowing Richard across different chapters of his life, making this milestone even more special for everyone who celebrated alongside him.
Family and friends came together to celebrate Richard and the incredible life he has lived. The day was filled with joy as stories were shared, smiles exchanged, and everyone enjoyed spending time together in honour of such a wonderful man.
The celebration was made even more special with a menu perfectly suited to Richard’s tastes, plenty of pies and sausage rolls, which were enjoyed by all. Adding to the atmosphere were the sounds of bagpipes, something Richard has always loved, bringing a sense of excitement and celebration to the occasion.
It was a wonderful day that reflected Richard’s personality and the many connections he has built over the years. Most importantly, it was an opportunity to recognise and celebrate Richard himself, his life, his journey, and the happiness he brings to those around him.
